F3A Swiss League, Round 2 in Sierre
The second round of the Swiss Championships took place on October 9 and 10 at the Sierre Model Aircraft Club’s field. For the event, the Sierre Model Aircraft Club provided ideal facilities to ensure the flights went smoothly.
The weather was also favorable. During the briefing, President Olivier Bonvin welcomed the 18 registered pilots. It was mutually agreed that the P11 program would take place on Saturday and Sunday in three rounds, and the top-ranked pilots would compete in the F11 program on Sunday as the final. It was also announced that weight assignments would be determined by random draw. Five F3A judges from Liechtenstein and Switzerland were on site.
The first flight began at 9:30 a.m., and spectators were treated to some excellent flights, particularly from the top two finishers in the first round at Oberönz. In fact,
Pirmin Jund and Patrick Drack executed nearly identical flights and scored the maximum 1,000 points! Marc Rubin was provisionally in 3rd place with 980 points. Reto Schumacher executed a very good flight but received a zero on the spin.
The judges found two models that exceeded the weight limit, resulting in the cancellation of the flights for the pilots in question.
In the second round, Patrick Drack took the lead in the provisional standings with another 1,000-point flight, followed by Marc Rubin with 981 points.

and Pirmin Jund with 980 points. The two models that were over the weight limit were fitted with lighter batteries and were thus able to resume competition.
After three rounds, the six finalists were selected to
the F11 final. This highly demanding program was of an exceptionally high standard, and Patrick Drack once again scored a perfect score on both flights, securing him first place. Pirmin Jund took second place with two scores of 996 points.
The competition took place under optimal conditions and without incident, thanks to the dedication of the cafeteria staff, the scoring teams, and all the volunteers.
The group dinner on Saturday evening at the venue will remain a fond memory for everyone. ■
