Construction Night at AMC Malval
The trend on our fields is undoubtedly toward ready-to-fly models. Lack of time, attractive prices, space—there are many reasons, and model-building enthusiasts are left regretting it. I’m talking about those modelers who love having their fingertips covered in glue and paint caked under their fingernails for days on end.
Model building is a labor of love—something we often lack in model aviation today. How can we introduce new modelers to the hobby,
how can we share our building experiences and motivate people who don’t have the time or space?
The “Night of Gliding,” the “Night of Zapping,” and now the “Night of Building.” We’ve already held two events at our club, and they’ve been a growing success!
Simple: 18 hours—or about 1,100 minutes—to build an airplane from scratch. The night will feature a contest. The construction kits or

Any prior preparations are prohibited. The clubhouse is thus transformed for a long night, welcoming the drivers and team representatives in a wild atmosphere.
The theme of the first edition was an unrestricted pylon race. The models stood out not only for their engines

but also by models made of balsa or Sagex. Last year, the longest flight was awarded a prize. Again, there were no restrictions on equipment. We saw the emergence of models with high aspect ratios and large-capacity fuel tanks

On the night of July 4–5, 2009, the AMC will open its doors to a limited number of pilots from other clubs (due to space and facility constraints!). The goal will be to test their skills in rapid model building and their endurance against 19 other competitors.
Each participant will have a workstation, and some machines will be provided along with basic materials. Each pilot must bring their own building supplies!
This innovative concept has been a huge hit with a wide range of modelers, and the AMC is pleased to offer this type of event to the most motivated among you. Register now—otherwise, your spot isn’t guaranteed. ■
