Homemade at Its Best

von Rainer Mattle
5

Rainer Mattle is also known as the man with the flying boxes.

He built a “plane” like this a while back. After assembling it at the airfield, the vintage model flies with a calm, effortless ease. In one photo, you can see an airliner high in the sky above the Harlan. What a contrast between old and new. The Valach engine chugs along quietly, keeping the Harlan circling in the sky until Rainer begins his descent. The homemade plane touches down on the grass runway as smooth as butter. Done! That’s exactly how it should be.
